What it is
The State Police (Policia e Shtetit) is the national civil law enforcement agency of Albania, operating under the authority of the Ministry of Interior. It is mandated to maintain public order, prevent and investigate crime, safeguard state borders, and ensure public security throughout the country. Established on January 13, 1913, by the provisional government of Ismail Qemali following Albanian independence, the force underwent extensive restructuring in 1991 to transition from a communist-era apparatus to a modern democratic police service.
