What it is
The Federal Ministry of Defence (Bundesministerium für Landesverteidigung) is the Austrian government ministry responsible for military administration and the command of the Austrian Armed Forces (Bundesheer). Its core mandate is to safeguard the nation's territorial integrity, protect constitutional order, uphold Austria's constitutional neutrality, and participate in international peacekeeping and disaster relief operations. Following the end of Allied occupation and the restoration of Austrian sovereignty via the 1955 Austrian State Treaty, the independent ministry was officially established in July 1956.
