What it is
The Federal Ministry of the Interior (Bundesministerium für Inneres) is the cabinet-level government ministry of Austria responsible for public security and civil administration. Its mandate encompasses law enforcement, state security and intelligence, border management, asylum and migration, disaster management, and the administration of federal elections. Tracing its institutional origins to the Imperial and Royal Ministry of the Interior created during the 1848 revolutions, it was re-established in its modern ministerial structure in 1945 following the founding of the Second Austrian Republic.
