What it is
The National Bank of the Republic of Belarus is the central bank of Belarus, responsible for conducting monetary policy, regulating the banking system, and ensuring the stability of the national financial sector. It traces its institutional roots to the Byelorussian office of the Soviet State Bank established in 1921. Following Belarus's declaration of sovereignty, the bank was formally reconstituted as an independent central bank in 1991, subsequently issuing the Belarusian ruble as the sovereign national currency.
