Supreme Court of Belarusjudiciary

Belarus · founded 1991

What it is

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus is the highest judicial authority in the country for civil, criminal, and economic matters, serving as the court of final review. It exercises supervision over lower courts of general jurisdiction and ensures the uniform application of legislation, while constitutional review is handled separately by the Constitutional Court. Although its institutional roots trace back to the establishment of the Supreme Court of the Byelorussian SSR in 1923, the modern court was established in 1991 following national independence. In 2014, its jurisdiction expanded significantly when it absorbed the Supreme Economic Court of Belarus to form a unified court system.
