What it is

The House of Representatives is the unicameral legislative body of the Republic of Cyprus. It is responsible for passing legislation, approving the state budget, ratifying international treaties, and exercising parliamentary scrutiny over the executive branch. Established in 1960 under the Zurich-London Agreements with provisions for both Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot representation, Turkish Cypriot members withdrew following intercommunal unrest in 1963, leaving their allocated seats vacant since.
