What it is
The Supreme Constitutional Court of Cyprus is the nation's highest judicial body responsible for ruling on constitutional matters, verifying the constitutionality of legislation, and resolving jurisdictional conflicts between state organs. Originally established under the 1960 Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus with a bi-communal bench and a neutral foreign president, its operations were disrupted by the 1963–1964 intercommunal crisis, leading to its merger into a single Supreme Court. In July 2023, comprehensive judicial reforms re-established the Supreme Constitutional Court as an independent, standalone top-tier court.
