What it is
The Parliament of Italy is the national bicameral legislature of the Italian Republic, comprising the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic. Operating under a system of perfect bicameralism, both houses possess identical powers to pass laws, approve the national budget, and grant or revoke confidence in the Council of Ministers. Originally established in 1861 following Italian unification under the Albertine Statute, the institution was reconstituted in its modern republican form under the 1948 Constitution after the fall of the fascist regime.
