What it is
The Prefecture of Foggia (Prefettura - Ufficio Territoriale del Governo di Foggia) is the decentralized branch of the Italian Ministry of the Interior in the Province of Foggia. It is responsible for representing the central government at the provincial level, coordinating public order and civil protection, and serving as a liaison between the state and local administrations. Established in 1861 during the unification of Italy to replace the previous Bourbon intendancy, the prefecture is housed in the monumental Palazzo del Governo, which was designed by architect Cesare Bazzani and inaugurated in 1934.
