What it is
The Saeima is the unicameral parliament of the Republic of Latvia, serving as the nation's supreme legislative authority. Comprising 100 directly elected members, it is responsible for passing laws, amending the constitution, approving the state budget, and electing the President of Latvia. First convened on November 7, 1922 following the adoption of the Satversme, it was suspended after the 1934 coup and subsequent Soviet occupation before being officially restored in the 1990s after Latvia regained independence.
