The State Revenue Service of Latvia (Valsts ieņēmumu dienests - VID) is a direct administration authority subordinate to the Ministry of Finance. Its mandate is to ensure the assessment and collection of state taxes, duties, and mandatory social insurance contributions, administer customs policy, and combat financial, economic, and smuggling crimes. Established on October 28, 1993, by the Saeima through the law "On the State Revenue Service," it merged the Customs Department and the State Finance Inspectorate into a single consolidated revenue administration for post-Soviet independent Latvia.
