What it is

The Information and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova (SIS) is Moldova's primary national intelligence and state security agency. It is mandated to safeguard national sovereignty, protect constitutional order, collect foreign intelligence, and counter threats such as espionage, terrorism, and organized crime. The service traces its establishment to September 9, 1991, when the former Soviet KGB in Moldova was abolished and replaced by the Ministry of National Security, which was subsequently reorganized into the modern SIS in 1999.
