What it is
The Constitutional Court of the Republic of North Macedonia (Уставен суд на Република Северна Македонија) is the independent judicial authority tasked with protecting constitutionality and legality in the state. Composed of nine judges elected by the Assembly of North Macedonia, its mandate includes reviewing the conformity of laws and collective agreements with the Constitution, resolving jurisdictional disputes between state organs, and protecting fundamental civil rights and freedoms against constitutional violations. Originally established under the 1963 Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia and beginning formal judicial work in February 1964, the Court was re-established as the supreme constitutional protector of an independent democratic state under the 1991 Constitution.
