What it is
The Delegation of the European Union to North Macedonia is the diplomatic mission representing the European Union in Skopje, operating under the authority of the European External Action Service (EEAS). Its mandate is to represent the EU's institutions, facilitate and monitor North Macedonia's accession negotiations, manage and implement EU pre-accession assistance (IPA) funds, and foster bilateral political and economic dialogue. First opened as a liaison presence in 1997 following the establishment of diplomatic relations, the mission was officially elevated to a full Delegation in March 2000 and upgraded following the 2009 Treaty of Lisbon to represent the entire European Union.
