What it is
The Constitutional Tribunal is Poland's constitutional court responsible for judicial review and safeguarding constitutional supremacy. Its primary mandate is to rule on the compliance of statutory legislation and international treaties with the Constitution, as well as to resolve jurisdictional disputes between central state organs. Established in 1982 during the communist era, the Tribunal began adjudicative operations in 1986, and the 1997 Constitution subsequently made its rulings final and universally binding.
