What it is
The Łańcut Castle Museum is a state cultural institution housed in one of Poland's most prominent aristocratic palace residences in Subcarpathian Poland. Its mandate is to preserve, research, and exhibit the palace complex, its original period interiors, extensive fine art collections, and Europe's largest historical horse-drawn carriage repository. Originally erected as a fortified residence in the 17th century by Stanisław Lubomirski and later transformed into a grand palace under Izabela Lubomirska, the estate largely escaped World War II destruction and was nationalized into a public museum in 1944.
