What it is
The City of Košice is the municipal self-governing authority of Slovakia's second-largest city and the administrative center of the Košice Region. It is responsible for managing local public affairs, urban planning, municipal property, local infrastructure, and providing essential public services to its residents. First mentioned in written records in 1230 as Villa Cassa, Košice made European history in 1369 when King Louis I granted it the first royal coat-of-arms charter ever issued to a civic municipality.
