What it is
The Government of Spain is the constitutional institution that leads the executive branch and the General State Administration of the Kingdom of Spain. Led by the President of the Government (Prime Minister) and the Council of Ministers, it is mandated to direct domestic and foreign policy, civil and military administration, and national defense. While its modern ministerial cabinet was formally established in 1834, the institution assumed its current democratic framework under the Spanish Constitution of 1978.
