What it is
The Prosecution Service of the Balearic Islands (Fiscalía de la Comunidad Autónoma de las Illes Balears) is the regional organ of the Spanish Public Prosecution Service operating within the Balearic Islands. It is tasked with upholding the rule of law, protecting citizens' rights, directing criminal investigations, and representing the public interest in judicial proceedings before regional courts, including the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands. Established in 1989 following the creation of the regional judicial system to replace the historic Audiencia Territorial, the body was formally restructured into its current framework as a Superior Prosecution Service under legal reforms enacted in 2007.
