What it is
The Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Lugo (Fiscalía Provincial de Lugo) is the provincial branch of Spain's Public Prosecution Service (Ministerio Fiscal) operating in the province of Lugo, Galicia. Functionally integrated within the judicial system, its mandate is to uphold legality, protect civil rights, defend the public interest, and conduct criminal prosecutions across the province. The institution traces its origins to 1883, when provincial court and prosecution organs commenced operations in Lugo following Spain's 1882 judicial reforms. Its modern structure and functional autonomy were subsequently established under the 1978 Spanish Constitution and the 1981 Organic Statute of the Public Prosecution Service.
