General Council of the Riksbank (Riksbanksfullmäktige)parliament
Sweden · founded 1668
What it is
The General Council of the Riksbank (Riksbanksfullmäktige) is an eleven-member parliamentary supervisory body of Sveriges Riksbank, Sweden's central bank, elected directly by the Swedish Riksdag. Its primary mandate is to oversee the bank's administration, decide on banknote and coin designs, and appoint the members of the Executive Board. Established in 1668 alongside the bank to prevent royal interference after the collapse of Stockholms Banco, the council historically directed bank operations until 1999 reforms separated oversight from independent monetary policymaking.
