What it is
The Federal Government of Belgium is the executive branch of the Kingdom of Belgium, led by the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers. It is responsible for national-level governance and policy, retaining authority over core competences such as foreign affairs, national defense, justice, finance, and social security. Established originally following the Belgian Revolution of 1830, the executive was fundamentally restructured into its current federal framework through constitutional reforms culminating in 1993, which officially designated Belgium a federal state composed of autonomous communities and regions.
