What it is
The Federal Public Service Finance is the Belgian government department responsible for the country's public finances and fiscal administration. It is mandated to collect taxes, oversee customs and excise duties, manage the state treasury and public debt, and administer national patrimonial records and property registers. Originating alongside Belgian independence in 1830 as the Ministry of Finance, it was reorganized into its modern FPS structure in 2002 as part of the Coperfin modernization initiative.
