What it is
The Central Election Commission of Bulgaria is the country's independent state election management body responsible for organizing, administering, and overseeing all parliamentary, presidential, local, and European elections, as well as national referendums. Originally convened as an ad-hoc body in 1990 for Bulgaria's first post-communist democratic elections, it was established as a unified, permanent institution in 2011 under the national Electoral Code. In 2021, significant legislative reforms restructured its composition and tasked the commission with overseeing the rollout of widespread electronic machine voting.
