The Bulgarian Maritime Administration (Executive Agency Maritime Administration) is a specialized governmental agency operating under the Ministry of Transport and Communications. It is responsible for maritime safety, port state and flag state control, navigation security on inland waterways and the Black Sea, and maritime search and rescue operations. Tracing its origins back to the establishment of the first state port captaincies in 1879, the institution was formally reorganized into its modern agency structure by government decree in 1999.
