The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) is Bulgaria's independent national authority overseeing the domestic energy and water supply sectors. It is tasked with setting regulated utility prices, licensing operators, monitoring market competition, and aligning national frameworks with European Union internal energy directives. Established in 1999 as the State Energy Regulatory Commission, its remit was expanded in 2005 to include water and sewerage regulation before undergoing major governance and transparency reforms in 2015 under its current name.
