What it is
Czech Television is the national public service television broadcaster of the Czech Republic, financed primarily through television license fees and governed independently from the state budget. Its legal mandate requires it to provide objective, balanced, and pluralistic news, as well as educational, cultural, and entertainment programming that serves the public interest. Established on January 1, 1992, as the Czech successor to state-run Czechoslovak Television following the Velvet Revolution, its editorial autonomy was famously defended and legally strengthened after widespread public and journalist protests during the Czech TV crisis of 2000–2001.
