What it is

The Office of the President of the Czech Republic (Kancelář prezidenta republiky) is a state budgetary institution that provides executive, organizational, legal, protocol, and administrative support to the President of the Czech Republic. Headed by the Chancellor, its mandate is to ensure the exercise of constitutional and statutory powers of the head of state, as well as manage the historical Prague Castle complex and the presidential residence at Lány. While initially founded in December 1919 for the presidency of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk in Czechoslovakia, it was formally re-established under Act No. 114/1993 Coll. upon the creation of the independent Czech Republic in 1993.
