What it is
The Police of the Czech Republic (Policie České republiky) is the national civilian law enforcement agency of the Czech Republic, operating under the authority of the Ministry of the Interior. Its mandate is to protect public order, safeguard the security of persons and property, investigate and prevent crimes, and oversee national road traffic and border surveillance. Established on July 15, 1991, by the Czech National Council through Act No. 283/1991 Coll., it replaced the communist-era National Security Corps (Sbor národní bezpečnosti - SNB) to form a modern democratic policing service following the Velvet Revolution.
