What it is
The Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic is the upper house of the country's bicameral parliament, seated at the Wallenstein Palace in Prague. It functions primarily as a constitutional check and balance on the lower Chamber of Deputies, with the authority to review and amend legislation, confirm Constitutional Court judges, and exercise an absolute veto over constitutional and electoral laws. Although established on paper by the Czech Constitution in 1992 following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, the chamber did not formally convene until its first elections were held in November 1996.
