What it is
The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade is the government department responsible for defining and executing Luxembourg's external relations, European integration, national defence, development aid, and international trade policy. Established with the creation of Luxembourg's modern ministerial system following the 1848 Constitution, the institution originally operated within the Prime Minister's portfolio. In the aftermath of World War II, the ministry oversaw the nation's pivotal transition from unarmed neutrality into a founding member of the United Nations, NATO, and the European Union.
