What it is
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) is the single regulatory body responsible for the governance and supervision of all gambling activities in Malta, including land-based casinos, lotteries, and remote iGaming operations. Its regulatory mandate is to license gaming operators, safeguard player rights, ensure fair and crime-free gaming environments, and enforce strict anti-money laundering (AML) standards. Established in 2001 under the Lotteries and Other Games Act as the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA), Malta became one of the first jurisdictions in the world to regulate online gambling, leading to the authority's re-branding as the MGA in 2015 as the island grew into a premier global hub for the international iGaming industry.
