What it is
The Ministry for Finance is the cabinet-level government ministry of Malta responsible for formulating economic policy and managing public finances. Its mandate includes preparing the national annual budget, overseeing fiscal and taxation policy, and managing public debt and expenditure. First established under Malta's 1921 self-government constitution, the portfolio played a central role in guiding the country's economic transition following independence in 1964 and its subsequent adoption of the euro in 2008.
