What it is
The Parliament of Malta (Il-Parlament ta' Malta) is the constitutional legislative body of the Republic of Malta, consisting of the President of Malta and the unicameral House of Representatives. Its constitutional mandate is to enact laws, approve national budgets and taxation, scrutinize executive actions of the Cabinet, and debate issues of national and international significance. First established on November 1, 1921, under the British-granted Amery-Milner Constitution as a bicameral representative assembly, the institution was reconstituted as an independent sovereign unicameral parliament upon Malta gaining independence in September 1964.
