What it is
The Ministry of Finance of North Macedonia (Министерство за финансии) is the central cabinet-level department responsible for the fiscal, budgetary, and macroeconomic policy of the state. Its mandate includes formulating and executing the national budget, developing tax and customs legislation, managing sovereign debt, and supervising public procurement and financial inspections. Established in 1991 alongside the declaration of independence from Yugoslavia, the ministry oversaw the crucial monetary separation and introduction of the national currency, the Macedonian denar, in April 1992 under its first minister, Metodija Toševski.
