What it is
The National Council of the Slovak Republic is the unicameral legislative body and sole constitutional authority of Slovakia, composed of 150 members elected for four-year terms. It is responsible for enacting laws, amending the constitution, approving the state budget, and overseeing the government through votes of confidence. Tracing its historical roots back to the revolutionary Slovak National Council of 1848, the institution was established in its modern form following the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993.
