What it is
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Utrikesdepartementet), historically intertwined with the Swedish Royal Court, is the central government department responsible for Sweden's foreign policy, international relations, and diplomatic missions. The institution traces its official foundation to 1791, when King Gustav III established the King's Cabinet for Foreign Correspondence within the royal administrative apparatus. In 1840, a major departmental reform transformed the entity into the modern, permanent government ministry that operates today.
