What it is
The Lieutenancy of County Tyrone is the British Crown's representative office in the historic county of Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Headed by the Lord-Lieutenant, its primary mandate is to uphold the dignity of the Crown by arranging royal visits, presenting honours, and supporting local civic and community organisations. Established on 23 August 1831 under the Custos Rotulorum (Ireland) Act, it replaced the earlier system of county governors and was retained following the 1920 partition of Ireland.
