What it is
National Museums Liverpool is a non-departmental public body in the United Kingdom that manages several national museums and art galleries in and around Liverpool, Merseyside. Its mandate is to care for, develop, and promote public access to major cultural, scientific, and artistic collections on behalf of the nation. It originated from the Liverpool Museum established in 1851 and was formally nationalized under its current statutory framework in 1986, making it England's only national museum service based entirely outside London.
