What it is
The Alaska State Legislature is the bicameral state legislature of the U.S. state of Alaska, comprising the 40-member Alaska House of Representatives and the 20-member Alaska Senate. It is mandated to enact state laws, establish public policy, approve the executive budget, and confirm gubernatorial appointments. Preceded by the Alaska Territorial Legislature established in 1912, the modern state legislature convened its first official session in 1959 after Alaska was admitted to the Union. With 60 total members, it stands as the smallest bicameral state legislative body in the United States.
