What it is
The Arkansas Senate is the upper chamber of the Arkansas General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Arkansas. Composed of 35 members representing single-member districts, it is responsible for drafting, debating, and passing state legislation, confirming gubernatorial appointments, and trying impeachments. Established in 1836 under the state's first constitution prior to Arkansas's admission to the Union, the Senate originally met at the Old State House before relocating to the Arkansas State Capitol in 1911.
