What it is
The City of Canton is a municipal local government authority and the county seat of Stark County in northeast Ohio. Governed by a mayor and city council operating under a strong-mayor system, its mandate is to provide essential municipal services, including police and fire protection, road maintenance, public water utilities, parks, and urban zoning and redevelopment. Founded in 1805 and officially incorporated as a city in 1854, Canton holds an enduring place in American history as the long-time home and final resting place of U.S. President William McKinley, and as the birthplace of the National Football League (NFL), celebrated today as the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
