What it is
The City of Kissimmee is a municipal local government authority and the county seat of Osceola County in Central Florida. Governed by a mayor and city commission operating under a commission-manager system, its mandate is to provide public safety, municipal utilities, zoning, park management, and local economic development services for its community. Originally established as a trading post and steamboat hub on Lake Tohopekaliga called Allendale, local citizens voted to officially incorporate the settlement as the City of Kissimmee in 1883, transforming it into a major center for Florida's cattle ranching and citrus industries before its modern growth as a gateway to the Walt Disney World resort corridor.
