Colorado General AssemblyParliament

United States · founded 1876

What it is

The Colorado General Assembly is the bicameral state legislature of the U.S. state of Colorado, consisting of the Senate and the House of Representatives. It holds the constitutional mandate to enact state laws, establish statutory policy, and draft and approve the state's annual budget. Formally created in 1876 upon Colorado's admission to the Union, its inaugural session convened in November of that year to establish the legal foundation for the new state. In 1894, Colorado made history when three women were elected to the Assembly, becoming the first female state legislators in United States history.
