What it is
The Connecticut General Assembly is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Connecticut, operating as a bicameral legislative body composed of the State Senate and House of Representatives. It holds the constitutional mandate to enact state laws, establish the state budget, and approve appointments. Established in 1636 as the General Court of Connecticut, it adopted the Fundamental Orders in 1639—widely recognized as one of the world's earliest written constitutions—before formally dividing into a two-house legislature in 1698.
