What it is

The Family Court of the State of Delaware is a specialized state trial court within Delaware's judicial branch. It holds comprehensive civil and criminal jurisdiction over domestic relations and juvenile matters, including divorce, child custody, adoption, and juvenile delinquency. Tracing its origins to the 1911 Juvenile Court for the City of Wilmington, Delaware's separate county-level family courts were unified into a single statewide court system by the General Assembly in 1971.
