What it is
The Denver City Council is the legislative branch of the consolidated city-county government of Denver, Colorado. Composed of 13 members representing 11 districts and two at-large seats, the council is responsible for passing local ordinances, approving the city's annual budget, and regulating land use and zoning. Established in 1861 following Denver's municipal incorporation, the legislative body evolved into its modern structure after Denver was designated a consolidated city-county under the Colorado Constitution in 1902.
