What it is
The DeSoto County Court is a trial court of limited jurisdiction in DeSoto County, Mississippi, operating alongside the state's Circuit and Chancery Courts. It handles non-capital criminal matters, misdemeanor appeals, civil cases up to statutory monetary limits, and serves as the county's youth court. Established along with the county in 1836 following the Chickasaw Cession, its judicial operations were permanently headquartered in Hernando, where proceedings take place in the historic 1941 Neoclassical courthouse built after a fire destroyed the prior 19th-century structure.
