Division of Fire Safety, Missouri Department of Public SafetyGovernment

United States · founded 1972

What it is

The Division of Fire Safety is a specialized state regulatory and law enforcement agency within the Missouri Department of Public Safety, led by the Missouri State Fire Marshal. Its statutory mandate is to investigate suspected arson and fire-related fatalities, conduct fire safety inspections in daycare centers and licensed healthcare facilities, regulate boilers and fireworks manufacturing, and provide standardized training and certification for Missouri firefighters. Established in June 1972 through Senate Bill 487 under Governor Warren E. Hearnes as the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the division was integrated into the newly organized Department of Public Safety in 1974 to centralize statewide emergency response and fire prevention services.
