Harney County CourtLocal authority

United States · founded 1889

What it is

The Harney County Court is the local governing body and executive board of commissioners for Harney County in rural eastern Oregon. Composed of an elected County Judge and two County Commissioners, its mandate is to manage county finances and budgets, pass local ordinances, maintain extensive county road infrastructure, and administer statutory probate jurisdiction under Oregon law. Established on February 25, 1889, when the Oregon Legislative Assembly created Harney County out of Grant County, it remains one of only a handful of traditional "county courts" preserved in Oregon that combine executive administrative governance with residual probate judicial functions.
